Thomas Verfaille (Belgium)
Thomas (1977) is a Belgian photographer based in Ghent. The original plan was to become a civil engineer/architect, but after 5 years of studying at the University of Ghent, he made an overnight decision to become a photographer. He graduated in 2005 from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent with a master’s degree in photography.
Since 2005 he has worked as an independent freelance photographer and tries to travel as much as possible, using his camera to explore the world.
He first visited Iceland in the summer of 2013 and immediately fell in love with the country, the landscapes, the light, the colours and the people. It became the start of a series of visits to work on a photoproject about the island.
The pictures shown in STEYPA are part of that series and try to give a personal view beyond the overwhelming and surreal landscapes of Iceland.
